This show is just a tad, obscene. There seems to be much hidden perverted humour in it.

When my son was 4 years old.. he had a hearing impairment.. he didn't speak.. or show much emotion.. It was very disheartening..
One day.. I was cleaning my house.. I sat him in front of the TV that was playing "Pee Wee's Playhouse" .. after a few minutes I heard something.. I went in the other room where he was.. and what I heard was Laughter.. my son..who had never laughed a single time in his young life.. was laughing that undeniable little child "deep down" laugh.. that brings joy to anyone that hears it.
I will ALWAYS be thankful to Pee Wee and his wonderful show.. and I think (although it can be a bit freaky) most of the "perverted" humor you talk about .. will go over a young child's head anyway..so no harm done.
I know..long winded.. but... you have no idea.. that show was the catalyst to my son being a well adjusted, smart, outgoing young man with an amazing sense of humor!!.

Yes. Growing up, my sister was a fan. I saw it a few weeks back with my young son (6), and like you was surprised at the things going on below the surface. That used to be on Saturdays for all to see? I don't remember any parents freaking out.

My son only enjoyed the spectacle - Pee Wee does have a lot of cool things in his house, and I have fun with the word of the day, but the visitors and the undercurrent of sexuality was pretty strong. Maybe it's what we know about Pee Wee that makes it so obvious today, I don't know.

Just a quick addition - I agree with many others - there's more than one layer here, and the kids don't seem affected by it. And I absolutely love that Pee Wee's antics helped that little boy. Wonderful story.

I watched it all the time with my little brother and cousin, I still have the talking Pee Wee doll and some VHS tapes of the show somewhere in a box collecting dust, I should go find them.

:D

I watched it! It was on Saturday mornings with the cartoons. If it was obscene, I didn't get it. I've noticed today watching movies with my little niece that there's adult humor out there. Like, a lot of the new Disney movies. Kids don't get it and don't even think twice about it.

I can't imagine WHY a parent would, short of not watching it first. I didn't think the perverted humor was very hidden though.

My sister and I watched that show all the time when we were little! We loved the show and the movies! Personally, I didn't think that it was dirty or anything like that when I was a kid. Watching it now tho, I can't believe that my parents let us watch it! lol

My parents did, and at the time I was too young to understand the hidden "humour".

I watched it as an adolescent, my mom never paid attention to anything I did (until later). It seemed to me the show was a might...off. But then, that was part of the appeal.

Mine did. Rewatching it I get those things that are a little risque, but that makes it still fun unlike a lot of shows that were insipid 20 years ago and still are.
