Billions of dollars are spent on perfumes and scented deodorants and scented everything to cover up the human smell..A lot of these are really repulsive and a lot of people don't know when to quite--enough is enough.. Why are we so concerned that the smell of people is offensive? Our bodies spent all of evolution developing it's own chemical attractants and yet we try so hard to cover these up....Personally I think the smell of the human body--provided it is clean--is a terrific aphrodisiac..a natural one...yet all this hype about perfumes exists...Part of my attraction to any man is his scent...I remember listening to a straight British woman saying, in some context, "men--I just love the hairiness and smell of them." Any comments?

what I find quite ironic is that most perfumes are flower based..these are chemicals that flowers use to attract insects...

I agree. I am not into the colognes and perfumes like alot of people are. I will use a body spritz when going out of the house just to keep myself feeling "fresh", but it's a lighly scented berry spray. It is so very true that the body gives off natural pheremones that can hypnotize others. I much prefer smelling my man in his all natural state, clean of course! than to smell some over-priced cologne plastered all over his body.

Ha. Marketing overkill, kinda like commercialized Christmas!

I prefer mostly unscented and generally use shampoo and lotions with mild scents that work well with my chemistry. That and bathing regularly is usually enough to attract me to another. Too much smell of any sort turns into stink whether it's from a bottle or natural body order. It's not at all appealing.

Oh, and I think people have always been doing this, it just comes in a bottle now (yeah, almost every friggin' thing bottled). Good smell is associated with health. Many folks just don't recognize what is gag-me overkill. Lol, maybe all those atrificial scents also explain why so many are challenged to find the right mate.

actual _parts_ of Africa were extra stepped forward than any way of existence north of the Rio Grande. different aspects were not. it is also not actual that dugouts were the most stepped forward water holiday technologies. Canoes and kayaks are drastically extra state-of-the-artwork. it isn't actual that all of them lived in tents. They were not all plains nomads. they did not have state-of-the-artwork metallic operating, it is actual. Nor did they have the wheel. And it is actual of the South American civilisations as well. the reason they did not have the wheel became because they did not have a respectable draft animal to commence issues...rolling. the reason they did not have state-of-the-artwork metallic operating became because they were bodily remoted from the cultures that got here across bronze and iron. with out metallic this is difficult to agriculturally artwork tremendous aspects of North u . s . of america which has not ordinary soil. with out wide agriculture, you could not help the tremendous cities that gasoline technological progression. That being stated, in point of fact, there have been some extremely state-of-the-artwork cultures on the Mississippi (almost reminiscent of civilizations south of the Rio Grande). even with the undeniable fact that formerly the white guy can make a lot contact with them, they were completely devastated through plagues that swept for the time of North u . s . of america presently after being presented through the Europeans.

Colognes and such are a nuisance, most smell bad, they AREN'T sexually attractive, and tend to inflame others with allergies.
I had to leave a restaurant the other day because a lady walked in and sat behind me with perfume on that was so strong it ruined the flavor of my food. I nearly threw up. (and BTW YES I turned and told her all about it in no uncertain terms)
Why some people tend to marinate themselves with such an odoriferous stench is beyond my comprehension.

There ARE unscented deodorants and antiperspirants that I use to keep from becoming smelly.
I'd rather smell body odor than perfume anyday.

I suppose what you are saying would be fine if people had access to showers all day. But after at least a half days work people can start to smell raw. Then add to that that people are eating different types of food and that so many people are all crammed together in one place....

Granted I don't like it when people drown themselves with cologne or perfume. But scents do perform a necessary function in society.

I don't know. Perfumes and other scents are only appealing if they mingle with your natural body chemistry. Also, we get used to our own scent; we apply perfumes to please ourselves. Personally, I love the way a particular body wash interacts with my wife's pheromones, and she feels the same way about my orange blossom perfume. I think scent is as much a way to express personality as clothing and hairstyles are.

The same evolution you speak of made MOST of us dislike the smell you find so appealing. However.... since we do have a choice, everyone can have what they want.
