I am legally seperated from my ex husband for 6 yrs now and he still will not pay for half of the divorce, I am irish and it cost around 1.500 €. Even though it states in the seperation papers that both spouses will pay for their half of the divorce. I would desperatly like to marry my partner but its hard to save up that kind of money.

I'm not qualified in Irish law, only English, but the system may be similar. In England, you state on the divorce petition that you're seeking half of the costs back. You then pay the court fees and at Decree nisi time, the court orders your spouse to pay half within 14 days. If he doesn't, you can enforce it thru the court. There are probably lawyers in Ireland who, as here, will offer a free half hour advice. If you're really hard up, don't you have a public funding (legal aid) system?

I think you may have to, it would be expensive to sue him.

Just a thought, but could you get the divorce processed elsewhere in the EU ? I've heard it can be a lot cheaper.

Maybe you should talk to a lawyer and go back to court. If the court ordered it they should be able to put him in jail and he will have to pay his half to get out of jail.

I would say divorce him! Do you have a citizens advice bureaux in Ireland, they would probably be able to tell you where you stand. Alternatively smash up his car or something, at least it will make you feel better.

Take him to court ... if it says it in the papers he has to pay and he will have to pay your legal costs as well.

get the court to order him to do so-a garnishment. In anycase, live with your partner, and pay it yourself. It would be worth it to get the ex out of your life
