That was the man, alright - realising Ratners of old catered basically for the socio-economic C2DE's (aka working & lower class)...which has now been taken over by the jewelry section of Argos. As nasty as it sounded, he did have a point - but with most things, it should have remained in the warm secretive gentlemans' club over rich Portuguese sherry rather than the cold air of media observation. He tells us now that his 'notoriety should help - not hinder - his new venture'. We shall see.
Mr. Ratner isn't the only one to sneeringly kick at what he sees as the 'common oiks' - many senior executives have jumped on that particular bandwagon. The chief of clothing giant Top Man called his punters 'hooligans', and even more amazing was the snarl from lottery guv'nor Dianne Thompson, who told us that lottery ticket buyers will be very lucky to even win a tenner, let alone the millions on offer. Could be it's a case of, well...after the first 'x' amount of millions the executives make, why shouldn't they be allowed to show us what they really thought originally, for by then, they'll have enough money to laugh it off.
