Lets say 12 days before Christmas an atomic bomb goes of in a major city like Miami, LA, NY, Colorado etc. Not a big one, maybe half the power of the Hiroshima bomb, suggesting it was a suitcase nuke with a mytrdom bomber. 12 hours go by and no one claims responsibility. No Hamas, no Al Qaeda, no one. Who would Bush slate to get nuked for some pay back? And would he use the attack as a pretext to nuke one of the many nations that are a torn in his side(if there were evidence or not)and who would they be?

Many insightful responses. I do not think however that N. Korea would get hit(though they would be on the short list), neither would China or Russia(both have nukes to hit back with). Too much business is done with China anyhow. But some of those other areas(mostly Middle Eastern based)I am sure would be hit, or Lebanoned back to the stone age. But, soon a king/queen will be crowned. Kat, love that you noticed. That is fact from fiction and truth from diction...

The common pattern in this situation leads me to think that occurrence of such an event would really be an opportunity for US to stage another attack. It would be an ample ammunition to justify US position and attack the stance of any of its adversary countries.
Even the absence of that event would not deter America to wage and support an attack.. it's free to choose where they want attacks to occur, not so much by starting them in particular places as by choosing from among the many "trouble spots" around the world.. which ones can be escalated into larger conflicts and which ones can be discouraged.. this can be done not by nuking rather by direct insertion or withdrawal of military forces, which occurs more often by turning up or down supply of arms.. one must see things from US perspective.

First it will be very difficult to hide the source of the bomb, the country that made it, but lets assume that the producer was the USSR and that it was help by Ukraine, where somebody stole it and sold it to a terror group.
Ukraine is not the target for retaliation, the terror group has no return address, even if the identity of the terror group and even some of the actual organizers could be discovered.
The US will use this "opportunity" to nuke every country that is supposedly a supporter of that terror group.
they would do it even if it was a foiled attempt.
An "opportunity" like that should be exploited.

Do you think for a moment that those lame-brains that you mentioned would keep quiet about who did it? Do you believe one of the nut-cases would not want to be ordained the Islamic God of the Universe for attacking "the American devil"?
If that happened those "results of distorted-sperm" would fight among themselves to see who got the credit. We would know who did it within the time it would take to re-aim our missiles.
Let's hope that by that time America would have spies all over the world and the Internet would be telling us all that we need to know to protect ourselves.

We have some pretty sophisticated science now days, remember how they found the Oklahoma City Bombers? everyone thought it was Arabs. Still Mr. Bush probably would like an excuse to nuke Iran.

Hopefully, nobody will ever use a nuke again. It was horrible for Japan, although it did put an end to WWII. If one was used again, anywhere, by anyone, it would probably kick start WWIII.

Since when did Colorado become a city? I suppose in your drug induced haze of a whack job liberal mind, you think its a city?
Anyway, right now the FBI, CIA etc, would first look at domestic terrorism groups first...PETA, ELF, ALF. They are actually a bigger threat here than Al Qaeda.
