I want to extend my patio slab. Should I pour a new adjoining slab? If I continue the same slope as the original slab, it may be too low w.r.t. the yard. This would also result in an obvious seam between the too different slabs. Should I overpour the original slab when doing the new one to raise the whole thing and make one surface? Would this be more liable to crack? Is there anything wrong with overpouring concrete?

is there any way you could remove the old and start all over. if u poured 3 inches over the old you would have to pour 3 extra inches in the new area to raise it up. You would be using almost three times the concrete. Call a day laborer place and hire two guys for the day to rip it out and start fresh. You'll be sure you like the results.

If the current concrete pad is in good shape, then I would simply pour the new concrete pad adjacent to it. You could purposely leave a 2 foot gap between the old and new pads and use it for a flower garden and shrubbery. Or you can install an expansion joint and pour the new pad adjacent to the old pad. You can slope the new pad toward the expansion joint and the area between the two pads will act as a swale to drain rainwater to the edge of the pads.

If you have 4 inches to your next elevation, pressure wash and apply a concrete bond/glue it will be good for many years to come, if not don't go thinner the new concrete will crack.
