Dry farming is used where there is low rainfall, and irrigation is not possible/practical. Instead, farmers use methods to minimize soil erosion and water loss, and plant crops that tend to use and lose less water. There are specialty breeds of crops that have been bred specifically for dry farming.

Wet farming is still used in low rainfall areas, but where irrigation is practical.
