Whirlpool just bought Maytag. Try and get a Maytag that was made by Maytag before Whirlpool bought them. That way u will really have a Maytag.

Today there are good and bad in all makes and models. The only thing you can do is hope that you get a good one regardless of what kind it is.

I would like to add a little consideration for you in purchasing another. I had a rather old washer machine which has now been replaced by a newer one. In the older machine, it had a large agitator. The "fins" on it were large. When it washed clothes you could watch the clothes churning and then churn to the bottom, constantly rotating the clothes as they washed. With this newer machine, the clothes get mixed, but never dragged to the bottom and up, just churned.

Why I'm mentioning this is because although our clothes are not that dirty such as a mechanics would be, so that they did not need to be tortured in the machine, the problem lied with the soap residue. The smaller fins just did not swish enough and many clothes still had soap residue remaining on them. You find that now you have to change laundry detergent and put far less laundry in the machine. Also change the water temp.

I have been having a lot of problems with the soap residue in the smaller finned machine. Not only washing some clothes twice, but also with skin allergies from the residue. Just something for you to consider.

I have a pair of 'Duets' from Whirlpool. They are front loaders and use only 6 total gallons of water verses 30 on stand up models! They have a vertical drum like a dryer. They are super efficient and quiet. Also, the spin speed is MUCH faster than standard uprights thus ,less water is left in the clothes.Less water in the clothes means faster drying times!I would stay away from GE,Roper,Amana.I believe Maytag just got bought by Whirlpool.Maytag was owned by 'Speed-queen',who made the commercial washers and dryers for laundromats. The Duets and Whirlpool always rated Best in Consumer reports.I also sold Asko,Meile,Fisher-Packel but I have not had a lot of feedback on them.If you want the VERY Best,Buy Bosch. It's $$ though. One last thing,Mechanical control panels are far less likely to fail than electronic panels. If you buy any thing with electronics, Get the extended warranty and use a surge suppressor. The manufactures warranty will NOT cover the circuitry but a in-store (like Lowes) Will cover the circuitry.

I'd recommend a Maytag or Whirlpool. Lowe's usually has the best prices. Our family has had really good luck with Maytags, but I've heard little to no complaints about Whirlpool either.

Depends on your needs and space. I want the huge machine made by any reputable co.(maytag, kenmore, etc....) however, we just don't have room for it. If I were in an apartment then I would need a small unit. If I didn't have kids the super machine would really not be necessary.....good luck!

We have a frigidaire washing machine that we bought at Lowe's 2 yrs ago. I think the price was somewhere near $300.00 on sale. It has not gave us one bit of trouble and still looks and operates like new.

I've had a Hotpoint for 10 years. No fancy bells or whistles, but in those ten years I have done laundry for eight people on a daily basis. Wouldn't trade it.

I recommend you buy a new washing machine in either Sears or Best Buy.
