Pokemon Sapphire; just how do you fish?

I mean, I just register the super rod, and press select on route 128 to catch a Luvdisc. But after it says, "Oh, a bite!" what do you do? I've learned that, if you keep you finger on A, it keeps tugging and pulling, but if you tap it nothing really happens. Both ways it didn't work.

If you've played any of the older versions of Pokemon (or FR/LG) you'll note that fishing is significantly different in Sapphire and Ruby.

To fish, Use the rod of your choice and every time you get the message "Oh! It's a bite!" you'll want to tap the A button--just once! You'll see the dots again, and when the message pops up, tap "A" again--but only once. Repeat this process until the message "A Pokemon's on the hook!" comes up, at which point you'll enter a battle with a wild Pokemon.

Sometimes, you may only have to tap once or twice (because the message only comes up once or twice) but sometimes you might have to tap "A" several times, one time for each time the message pops up. There does not seem to be any link between the type/level of the Pokemon and the number of times you hit "A"--only the Rod itself seems to influence that.

ok davids right I would reapeat the message but hes clear enough f plus dont press a while its still showing dots or you'll loose the okemon

you have to tap the "A" button timed with the prompts saying the you have a fish biting
