I agree with duggiedugg. Hiring of foreign nurses will never end. Mainly because when American raised nurses put in a few years of experience, they leave the patient care setting. Mostly because it's hard. They go to mangement and any other place where there is no direct patient care.
Foreign nurses, a lot of them, not all, are mostly in the medical-surgical setting. This is a floor where there are 5 patients, or more, for every one RN.
This is the bad part of this predicament. Because of the harsh accent, many patients don't undertsand their nurse. But, they give the care that is needed. Maybe not the peace of mind in the communication, but they will stay alive.
Be kind to your nurses, this is a hard job and many quit because of the stress mainly from family members not understanding how hard the job is.
I'm an American, and when I reach8 to 10 years of experience I can tell you this much. I'm out of the patient care. Going into procedures where I just push medications and send the patients back to the floor.
There is nothing wrong with foreign nurses. Who's going to do the job? Why don't you be a nurse?

Actually, what they need to do more than anything is to make the Nursing Classes more available. California and Arizona both have scores of people waiting to get into nursing, but they use the lottery system. They require that you have finished all of your prerequisites first, and have no grade in your science classes (biology, microbiology, anatomy, etc, lower than a "B". Then, you can still end up waiting sometimes 3-years to get into the program. This is why there is a shortage of Nurses.
There are schools that have the LVN programs without the waiting list, but most people want to be RN's. That's where the money is, and the demand for LVN's isn't as great.
This is the reason for the shortage.

Yes, because foreign nurses dont complain about work conditions, hours and pay. Unlike most of the low educated population of the US of A.

there is no shortage. the hospitals simply refuse to hire enough staff to cover patient needs. the cut into the profit would simply be too much. you see healthcare is an industry. industries are run by corporations. corporations are run by money.
