sorrowfully, doctors dont know what causes either of the two, and there isnt a "cure" for it either. I have had a rash/itching on my hands for a few months now, and my doctor believed it was from harsh cleaning chemicals, such as bleach or laundry detergent. Along with creams and ointments (tried both), my doc told me to use Cetaphil, it's an over the counter medicated lotion with no fragrance. I have to avoid all fragrances for a while (including fragranced soaps too.) My doc also told me to stay out of dish water, the pool, anything with chemicals basically. If you DO have to contact something try wearing vinyl gloves. This may also be brought on as an allergic reaction to latex gloves. I tried oral steriods (prednisone) which DID clear it up almost immediately, HOWEVER the symtoms came back the day after i finished the medicine. Her doc may say she needs a patch test to see what is causing the allergic reaction.... you could always try that too. This rash can also be brought on by stress too, but this is what it's been like for me.
Good luck and best wishes to your wife, this thing is a pain in the neck! (actually hands, quite literally)

That the rash is localized to her hands only, I'm thinking latex sensitivity. Does she wear latex gloves at home or work?
Just as an FYI... the conditions you mentioned are spelled excema and psoriasis.

It's the kind that makes me want to wear rubber gloves when I hand you a dictionary for you or your wife.
