i do think that stewart downin is the better winger, but then agen Joe cole is handy for beating people and playmaking.i would choose Stewart Downing and try and fit Joe Cole somewhere else. what would you do?

Downing gives width on the left which Joe Cole does not supply, Joe,when hes got the ball runs inside with it, whereas Downing gets in crosses which is essential to succeed in World football.McClaren likes wingers so it is likely he will start with Downing and bring Joe on as an impact player, running at the opposition when they are tired in the second half.

Im a Boro fan and that i imagine Joe Cole is way more beneficial proficient than Downing yet Downing provides a much more beneficial valuable stability on the left part and his crossing is far more advantageous to Coles, Capello ought to have a troublesome decision to make for sensible.

stewart downing has the good crossing ability whereas joe cole he has the flair and great dribbling which will help England to penetrate the left-side more often but eventually joe cole will not provide a great cross to those who are in the centre furthermore as you guys know joe cole's playing style he like to dribble around and rarely pass the ball that's why i think downing would be a better choice

Joe cole every time. Stewart downing is good, and he should definately be in the squad, but i cant help feeling that he will only play as he is a middlesborough player. Joe cole is the better footballer.

Downing is a good player, but not yet consistent enough... at the moment, I feel Joe Cole is the best choice, with Downing taking a 'supersub' role... as Cole isn't good enough to push Gerrard, Lampard and Hargreaves out... the only other option would be five in midfield, with Hargreaves DM, Downing left, Gerrard right, and Cole and Lampard central... but then you'd either need three at the back (I'd go with that, but McLaren definitely won't) or only one up front...

Dont think Downing is in the same class as Cole but he will probably get more opportunities now that McClaren has the final say. McClaren has got it wrong on Downing. He may be OK at club level but not at International level.

i would still use joe cole, for the reason you mentioned. but theres no doubting downings ability. i think maybe in time he will be our anwser to the left sided problem, but as it stands i think joe cole does a good job there!!! but with mclaren in charge he may favour downing????
