Ive been playing guitar for a while now. I currently have an Encore Strat but now that im no longer a begginner, its time to get a better guitar. I was just wandering a about the advantages and disadvantages of different guitar types (like strats, les paul, sg etc.) I dont want to spend more than £500 but may go over if its definitely worth it.

The Fender Strat is an obvious choice, in that you can get a great axe with a great sound for a great price. Musician's Friend starts them around $400.00. Not bad for what will probably be a lifetime instrument.

Paul , I have been playing guitar over 25 years so I can answer you . Take the time to thoughly examine an instument from your perspective . What you want from the instrument is most important . If you are used to the neck demensions on your present guitar and like them , then find a simular guitar with the same demensions . You can bet your bottom dollar that guitars that are cheap are not going to last long , made with poor machine heads ( tuners ) bad solder work in the electronics , ect . Guitars made in the US. are pretty good but cost alot , so shop , shop and play it in the store until your sure . You could also check the news paper classifieds , used instuments .As far as advntages in different types , again , its up to your personal preference . You arent going to find a Les Paul for under 900 usd ...Do you use the whammy bar to contort notes? Seek an axe with a Floyd Rose locking tremolo , they take patience to work with , but theyre the best . Some top names Gibson , Jackson , Fender , Music man , ESP and back inthe day Kramer made some great ones !!! Keep Jammin !!! Say Hi to Allan Holdsworth for me !!
