Hurricanes! remember Katrina, people are still facing that devastation. Hurricanes are one of the more frequent natural destructive occurrences.

They cause such fear because we have warning and it's broadcasted very often that it's coming. Earthquakes show little warning until after the fact. forest fires are fairly easily dealt with and contained. Tornadoes are rare enough--throw a few cows in the air..hit a couple of houses.

So it's hurricanes for the terror caused by knowing it's coming, it's relative frequency and it's destructive power.

I use to strongly believe that it was tornadoes. But after seeing the aftermath of Katrina and how long it is taking to clean up after her I would have to say hurricanes. Although I have to give a honorable mention to Volcanos. If anyone is eager enough to live around a active or even dormant volcano then they know what the risk is.
With tornadoes. Mild water damage, High Winds, structures torn down, deaths
Hurricanes , Massive water damage, High Winds, Structures torn down , wide scale flooding , people drowning, deaths
Volcanos - Lava burning everything, mud slides, people being burned, and Pyroclastic flows with earthquakes before the eruptionsome deaths remember Pompeii.
I would have to say even though I live in Tornado alley and I use to think that They were bad Im glad I do not live near the gulf or around any active or unactive volcano.

I'd say earthquakes, but tsunamis are a close second. I pick those two because it's hard to predict when it will happen and how much damage they'll cause.
