Telephone surveys are less accurate. Agreed, they are alot faster but if you send out surveys with reply paid envelopes, you will get better results and they are at least recorded on paper. You can assure respondents of confidentiality. You may only get a fifty percect response rate, depending on what information you are seeking, but it looks better in the final report and has better credibility.

one on one obtain the best answers/results. then a written questionaire without being present. the least accurate is telephone. i preferred to visit the people interviewed so i could watch their body language as they answered as well as to insure them their questions would be confidential. hard to do over the telephone or without contact.

Advnt: It's fast.
Disavnt: If the person is busy, he could give you false answeres just to getvrid of you.
Sure there are more advantages and dis(s), but this is what came to my mind at the moment.

people get angry when they're called up to take a survey. you have to stop and think: what kind of person will actually stop whatever they are going and take a survey? they're DEFINATELY not the average person. in fact, they're probably psychotic in some way. this tremendously reduses the credibility of any phone survey to almost zero.
