Probably, you are right. You should have stopped him when he started at 2. At this age, according to Freudian analysis, the concerned person becomes infatuated with the mouth and usually starts a habit of sucking a thumb, putting objects into the mouth, etc.
Discouraging this behaviour with other interesting activities like hobbies like art, craft or the like would have distraacted the child and would have avoided this problem.
Now that he's a 12 year old, the only way to discourage now is by wearing your own old gym socks while sleeping or applying castor oil or chili to your toes!!!

Wow. I've never heard of anything like this. I think you should have an open and non-judgmental conversation with him about it. Tell him it is not appropriate to be sucking on his father's toes while he is asleep, but I think you should encourage him to discuss his feelings with you. Perhaps he does have a foot fetish, but this is not an uncommon fetish. He should be indulging in it in appropriate ways though, and I don't think sucking on people's toes while they're asleep is a good behavior. Good luck.

hahah I'm sorry for laughing but that is pretty funny. but anyways, just sit your son down in the living room, take your shoes off and see if he keeps on looking at your feet. if he is then bring up the whole foot fetish thing. that's all i can think of =) good luck

take your kid to a professional. that is not normal. as far as discipline, i wouldn't hit him or anything but I would firmly talk to him and make it clear not to do it. also maybe you can try to give him something he can suck on instead of your foot. my 4 yr old has an obsession with putting things in his mouth. we gave him three different "chew" toy type items and he has gotten better about not putting other items in his mouth.
