I think its because we women are naturally maternal... we always want to see someone do good, be happy, and be a good person... When we meet a guy who is a jerk, we want him to be a good person, so we go about trying to fix him... However, I don't think any sane, rational, self respecting woman will deliberately go out with a jerk to try to fix him up... they might go out with him because they think he's hot, has a good job, etc... just lacking in the personality department, haha. Then, when we're been SUCKERED in by all the things that don't matter (job, looks, car, money, etc), we figure out we need more than those things, and try to make the guy into the perfect man, because, Hey, we're already with him for SOME reason... :) So, we might as well try... I'm not one of these, I tend to go for guys who treat me and my son well... that's the most important thing to me, personally...

Because "jerk" men are typically just insecure about themselves and are, deep down, desperate for some acceptance & affection. Women believe they can be a source of affection; the one that DO go out with jerks... tend to be more idealistic.

The reasons are many... Either the women has low self-esteem and feels that jerks are all she deserves. Maybe her dad was jerk. Or maybe she's naive and believes she can "change him". No matter what the reason, its stupid to do it. Relationships shouldn't be about changing either party but about embracing one another's unique qualities.

Sometimes girls think that they see a flicker of hope of a nice guy inside a bad one, and they think its worth it to go through a whole lot of suffering and gettin treated badly, if they can help them find their "good" side and bring it out.
