Henry, my Mbu Puffer, cost me £60, but I think he's well worth it!

OK, the "isn't it funny to put fish & chip jokes on under the Pets/Fish section" has worn a bit thin. Not that it was funny any way.

Had Henry for two years now, and he's only about 19 inches long (inc tail). Saving up for a really big tank for him, so would that count as the most spent on a single fish?

I think I have spent around £300 on my first 6 discus and they are well worth it. Watching them raise their offspring from eggs to free swimming young fish is a delight and the way they take food from my hand is cool. If you take size into consideration I think my two blue rams at £12 each where the most expensive I think I paid over the odds but they are simply stunning and very engaging to watch.

The most I've spent on buying an actual fish was 3.5$ for a black molly.

Now, I think the most money I've spent on a fish is 250$ buying all the proper supplies and tank for my goldfish. I'll be upgrading tanks again soon, so there will be more money on those three (one of which was free from when I won a contest 9 years ago).

This is for phantomfeline...
You spent 1500 pounds on a fish and can't remember what it's called??? Yeah, we all believe that.....

The most money I ever spent on fish was $18 on a bag of six neolamprologus multifasciatus, a small (one and a half inch) shell dwelling cichlid from Lake Tanganyika in Africa. I have spawned them and sold the fry making about $80 on them so far.

I got 9 Bettas and spent S$13 x4 on males and S$8 x 5 on females. And I almost got another which cost S$25, but due to not enough space.. Sad..

I spent $30 on an Oscar once. He ate all my other fish and grew to be over 18 inches long. I called him "George". I had him for five years. When I moved, I gave him to a pet shop and for all I know, he lives there still. He'd be about 35 though, so I suspect he's catfood.

$10 on my latest Gourami. He died in 3 days. My other $10 Gourami absolutely refused to die, no matter what kind of condition befell her, from getting stuck in a decorative rock and getting a large chunk torn out of her back and belly (which everyone thought would have been fatal), to God-knows how many diseases, to swim bladder failure (which eventually cleared up on its own).

My worst decision with fish was buying $100 worth of neon tetras. Because of poor design (stuck an airstone and a plastic plant inside the aforementioned rock, to make it look like a volcano), all the tetras mysteriously disappeared in a matter of a month... and was replaced by a large, nasty, smelly, puffball in the 'volcano'.

hi
maybe but we all spend different amounts on different fish etc.
i had a 8x4x4 tank i payed £100;00 for a real grand lid to be made at a local furniture shop.
i had a special base made up by my dad who is a builder.
it was bloody gorgeous to look at a real envy to every one.
i kept 6 red bellied piranhas and a 3ft black pacu.
im not bragging because i spent to much on it as i was forgetting to pay my bills while i was spending so much on this hobbies that it took me by hold.
but yes i love fish in a big way.
also my black pacu cost me £150.00 when i bought him
and the red bellies £20.00 each.
you spend what you can my mate its worth it if you ever go in to breeding fish ,watching there behaviour pattens.
all the best in the future from Wayne

Most expensive I bought were clown loach about £10 each. They are very funny, they sleep on there sides. I would have spent a lot more on a tank full of discus off e-bay, if i could have got someone to collect it for me.

I love puffers. In 2000 I bought two pink convict cichlids for $3.78 each and one is still alive. He is aggressive and bounces off the tank wall when anyone looks at him. He needs anger management courses but he is so much fun! I only buy cheap fish.
