From my point of view there is nothing wrong with tattoos. If your body is a temple you should be able to paint the walls how you want. I find women with tattoos to be pretty sexy actually but they're not for everyone.
The people that look down on women with tattoos are the ones with the deepest problems, I've known guys with tats that didn't like chicks with tats. You try to make sense out of that!
Basically I think it still goes back to a closed mindedness of women can't do certain things men can and tattoos aren't very "Lady-like". That you should be prim and proper, (Or barefoot and pregnant!LOL!) Don't let it bother you, a person is smart but people as a whole are idiots.
It's one of the oldest forms of art, and if you get one (Or have them) you should be proud.

I have three tattoos and I didn't have any of them for insecurity about my body ... and no .... I wasn't drunken.
I have drawn all the tattoos I have by myself, and they are reminds of a particular phase of my life, often are also a source of meditation, since they are permanent, so they induce me to ponder deeply about the reason I did each of them.
So, to have a tattoo, from my opinion, is a decision that should not be taken lighlty. They can be removed, but if you think to have a tattoo coz it can be removed, better do something else ...
A tattoo may be just a "fashion" thing, or something more, that depends from you.
Some people will surely judge you and discriminate independently from the sex, so if you are scared and fear the opinions of the others ... I think you should well reconsider your desire to have a tattoo.

Tattoos in western culture are equated with the old idea of rough men on the high seas (sailors) and exotic places. Today that image is changing. That said however, given the quality of today's cosmetic, artificial tattoos, I can't imagine why someone would want to permanently mark their body with a tattoo.
I have had many friends who got them who latter regretted it. This is not to mention those who had infection problems. Having tattoos removed with liquid nitrogen or laser treatment is expensive, time consuming and sometimes painful.
Current artificial tattoos will last up to several weeks and good ones are hard to distinguish for real tattoos. And you get the added benefit of being able to change designs when you want and being more or less bold with your body art as the occasion warrants. Seems to me to be all of the fun with non of the risks, pain or in convenience [and you don't have to have an old boy friend's name on your ????? for the rest of your life ;-)].

Probably. This may be somewhat offset by the numerous products and services offered too enhance one's beauty--make up and cosmetic surgery for example. It is generally more socially acceptable for women to pursue these things than men. It's also worth mentioning that unattractive men must often have something to offset their appearance. It's usually money or social status.

It's not. I don't remember the last time I laid down with a girl who didn't have some ink on her. It's very common for girls to have tatoos and I've never heard of any sort of bias other than nobody comments that a man's tatoo looks "cute"

If in doubt and still afraid what others would tell, try the removable ones. It is their sole purpose for creation.
When you finally decided you'll have one, place it in your upper leg portion where it can be covered anytime you want to, and just revealed in intimate manner.
But it's better just to use the fake removable ones. They're cute, many choices, and painless.

Tatts of any description are passe, love. Those with inked pictures in their hides are generally regarded as either goons or druggies. Some celebrities who ARE goons and druggies (notably rock and roll musicians) started this crap. Then the actors who associated with the rock and roll musicians started getting tatts. Now the whole thing is associated with "fame" and one can adopt that smidgen of fame when one gets a flower or a butterfly or a kitty cat injected into one's calf. And those "small of the back" tattoos are great targets.
The reason that tattoos are regarded as less than socially acceptable is that they are prima facie evidence of mental deficiency or emotional disease.
If you must get a tattoo, get a big spider on your forehead and leave no doubt.

In my believe sometimes your looks portrays who you are. But having a tattoo on a secret portion of your body will help you determine who sees it and would a better chance to explain its purpose of being there. You are my kind of gal. call me.

I have two of them.
It used to be only sailors got them or marines in drunken stoopers. Now though I don't think there is a double standard and if there is poo to them all. Men are such hypocrites anyway.
