No, they should not be forced to attend the gay march to pass out leaflets; I'm sure there are enough firefighters who have no problem with it to do it so why force those who conscientiously object to the lifestyle do that?

However, I think anyone would agree that if the firefighters were on duty and a fire broke out, they should be required to go put out the fire.

Should I say something rude about men in klts? Or did I just do that? Please support question with a link - - - are Scottish Firefighters being 'forced' to attend Gay Marches? How are they being forced? Penned in cages along the route, threatened with a loss of pay, or is it a part of their job to handle crowd control during marches? Your question should be clarified before one gives it a sensible answer. Peace.

I can understand the need for a visible police presence, but not for firefighters YES they should FORCED TO TURN UP IF THERE IS a NEED for EMERGENCY response - thats doing the job there paid to do responding to emergencies, but they should be waiting to respond to emergencies IF THEY ARENT NEEDED at the march for any other reason - yes there should be units on standby to get to the march fast if there is a problem but they should also be available in case the march ISN'T where they ARE needed because then they couldnt respond to the emergency they are needed @ because they can't get there vehicles through the marchers quickly and safely

Is footynutguy suggesting that queers are an ethnic or religious minority?
Why should Scottish Firefighters be forced to attend?
It subsequently occurred to me that they could do the Gay Gordons, along with the general gaiety.

Absolutely not. The Fire Service actually approached the organisers of the march and offered their services. They do not do the same on other marches (of which there are many in Glasgow). They should have asked for volunteers and, if none came forward, senior management should have done it as it was they who were trying to put some kind of PC point across.

If they refused to rescue a homosexual from a burning building that would be a different matter. Most men do not approve of homosexuality, including these firemen, so why should they be forced to attend such an event. If Adolf Hitler was around he would have been proud of Glasgow Council.

Absolutely not......should a white man be forced to march in the million man march or a better yet a gay man in a women's lib march...lol sorry couldn't resist. They definitely should be prepared to respond to any and all emergency but not march in the parade.

This all goes back to the Scottish habit of wearing kilts with nothing underneath. They are all assumed to be gay. But in reality there are a few in there that aren't gay, so probably they should be allowed to decline if they can prove they are straight.

AFAIK its not part of their normal (firefighting) duties so why should they be disicplined by their employers for refusing to go to a gay pride event and hand out leaflets. Just as i wouldn't expect them to be disciplined for refusing to go and hand out leaflets at any other event. If they refused to attend to their normal work (fighting fires, cutting open crashed cars etc) citing religious, ethnic or sexual pretexts, then they should be disciplined and hard.
