I think my almost 9month old son may have an allergy to polyester. The doctor seemed sure it was a virus rash, it went away a few days later and I put him in the same shirt (washed) yesterday and rash seemed to reappear, along with quite a bit of fussiness, understandably. Anyone know anyone who has this allergy? Will he grow out of it?? How severe is this allergy? Should I just count on my conclusion or take him to the doctor again? I really dont want to be one of those moms who sees the doctor for every little thing, maybe I should just mention it at his check up? THanks for any helpful answers!

The shirt is like a jersy, I personally love the silkiness of it, but I guess its going away!

My sister and I both had allergic type rash reactions to polyester and Acrylic when we were young, I have no problems with it now, but my sister still sometimes gets a bit of an itch when she wears acrylic, she is fine with polyester though.
I think as their skin becomes less sensitive, they will adapt to it. I would definately stick to cotton till your baby is at least 1 year old.

Polyester contains Propylene Glycol and can be a real problem to humans and animals. Its the same ingedient they use in Antifreeze which is deadly to all living things. The fibers from polyester Teddy Bears can even cause severe eye conditions.
I believe a polyester robe (new) that I used for my cats bedding caused seizures that disappeared when I threw away the robe.

I am a grown woman and polyester to me is not as comfortable as other fabric's. With a baby, I try keeping him in 100% cotton for a while. If he gets no rash, you'll know he has an allergy.

It sounds like he has sensitive skin. Toss that shirt, and be careful of the texture and fabric of his clothes and bedding in the future. I shop by feel for my clothes, and did the same for my daughter when I chose most of her clothes (she's 15 now). If it doesn't feel good, it doesn't matter how good it looks. We'll get rashes and be uncomfortable.
I don't think he has an allergy, though, and unless he reacts to many other things you probably don't need to bring it up with his doctor.

Yes, it is totally possible. You observe your child 24 hours a day, the doctor does so for 5 minutes. Your observation means a lot.
It is not advisable to wait for the kid to "grow out" of the allergy because the condition could become much worse. Do not use that shirt again.

Yes, you can be allergic to anything, the best thing would be to avoid any contact with polyester, he may grow out of it, but trust your own instincts, sometimes mum does know better. Yes you can mention it at his checkup.

I'd just get rid of the shirt, no point in the little one being fussy for no cause. It could be your laundry soap or fabric softener.

I have unpleasant reaction to synthetic fabrics, now wear only cotton against my skin.
Good on your son for being real.
