I have PCOS too and my doctor has put me on Metformin. Also, she changed my contraceptive pill because that was producing too much of the male hormone which doesn't help PCOS. I had to see an endocronologyst first and they ruled out anything else and did lots of tests and hormone level tests.
Basically PCOS means you have too much insulin in your body, and metformin regulates that insulin.
A low GI diet is also recommended.

Too be honest, I've tried everything and at present am following Weight Watchers and REALLY working hard to exercise loads. It seems to be working. It's slow but it is really hard to loose weight when you've got PCOS.
Good luck xx
P.S. for the people above who think PCOS has nothing to do with weight, I can assure you, you are very much mistaken. I have seen endocronologysts, dieticians and my GP and they all say the same thing - because of increased insulin your body stores fat instead of using it.

Hormones can fairly harm havock on your physique and weight... i became on beginning administration, gained weight and at one factor had Polycystic Ovaries ... i might propose, except you have a solid reason to be on beginning administration, get off it and consider out to repair your physique to its organic strategies. I actual do no longer think of that polycystic ovaries have something to do with weight earnings or loss ... in basic terms with your potential to offer fertile eggs. additionally, be basic and comprehend that probable there are various extra effective aspects (hormons lined) on your weight conflict then ovaries. i might say initiate by ability of traveling a nutricionist so he can prescribe a wholesome weight loss application ... and then bypass and get a well being club club

Swimming is one way though can't be done well while bleeding excessively, brisk walking for at least three miles per day, bicycle riding, stationary bike. I have been working on this and my bleeding has stopped for almost two weeks now after seven months of bleeding. Weight is going down too.
This is in addition to a healthy diet which I assumed you already switched to. I forgot to mention it coz mine has already been. Sorry.

A low calorie diet, low in carbs(so they say). You could try Metformin. It's a diabetes med but often helps with weight loss for ladies with PCOS, since it's mostly insulin resistance.
