Be nice with people in need or the ones that treat you well as you do. Be just firm and correct with the rest. Defend yourself if somebody attacks you.
There is no reason to change the real you, but you can not walk in life being such a sweet girl. With the time, you will find out that if you behave always nice it will be probably not completely honest. We do have emotions, and I do not see a reason why you must block always its expression.
Nobody can live a real life just with a perpetual smile unless is a Barbie or a politician. Both trash liars.
Look for your own mood and your own feelings if your education was based on “only if you are always nice all the people will love you". Sorry, it is not true. Some people will like you, other ones not and this is not depending on your bright side.
Start being polite with you and with unknown people till is able to see the reality more easily.

As Harry Truman said, "Walk softly and carry a big stick"
I hope you never lose your sweet disposition. The Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin, never let anyone push her around. But when she worked with me & Jake on the set of The Blues Brothers, she was pure joy to be around. How do you stay sweet and still not let people push you around? Here's what Aretha told me:

"Elwood, I've delt with oppression all my life, in big and small ways. It hasn't always been a picnic being a black woman in America, but I carved out a space for myself an inch at a time.
I start even with everybody, being friendly and respectful. If that don't work, I got plan B. Elwood, pray you never discover Plan B!"

Thankfully, I never did.

I never get tired of being nice. There is nothing wrong with being polite to others, those of us who care respect you for being nice. You have had both nice questions and answers. I like answering your questions. Those that are picking on you just want attention from others or trying to show off with rude answers.
Hang in there, you have my support and others who enjoy your questions. Please, keep being the nice and polite person we all know and trust.
Your friend,
Dottie

I never tire of being nice, I do tire of the rudeness in this world and peoples arrogance.

Not always good to be good. Advantage gets taken.

As for me, the only thing I'm tired of is staying awake.

You don't want to lower yourself to the level of those people who treat you wrong. If you do this, you are no better than they are. Just continue to be your nice and pleasant self.

I'm not a 'nice girl'
I'd kill myself if someone said I was. Interesting, funny, smart maybe. But 'nice'???
