my sister has recently lost her husband to cancer and is constantly having to answer phonecalls for him because his business details are posted on the web .
obviously this is very upsetting for her but she cannot change her number because distant freinds and family are still contacting her .
the sites that hold the details cannot be contacted .
BT help cannot help (as usual)
yahoo refuses to respond
what else can i do ?
any advise would be gratefully appreciated .

the number is not listed in the phone book and the sites that list his details appear to be dormant , the info they hold must be 8 years old at least and my attempts to re advertise also got no response .

Unfortunately the only people who can remove the information are the ones who run the site where the information is being held. None of the companies you mentioned have any control over the sites contents.
If you have trouble still send me an e-mail with the site address and I can maybe find a phone number for you to call.
John
If you go to the site http://www.samspade.org and put the web address (up to the first slash [NOT http:/]) in the first box and click the "Do Stuff" button you can get a name/phone/address of the company who registered the site name. You can also find out when the domain name expires. That will tell you when the domain name will not longer be valid.

As far as I know you can't! The best solution is to change your email address and contact info.
Let those you want to know your new email and contact info. I know this is alot of work cause I had a similar problem.. my sister M was sending me annoying emails and stuff that would bog down my computer! I haven't heard
from her or received anything since I did the changes! A lot a work but was worthwhile!

I think the only thing to do is change the number and tell as many close friends/family as possible. If your sister forgets to tell someone, they will probably write to her or find out through another friend/family member anyway.
Otherwise,if she does not change her number, she may still be receiving unexpected calls for a few more years.
Good Luck.

Often companies have an automatic email address where you send them a blank email and they take your details off the web. If you go to the telephone preferences organisation (there's a number to ring) they take your details off companies for marketing, and then next time businesses phone (even if related to her hersbund) you tell them to stop and that all records need to be scrapped. Otherwise phone them up and talk to customer services, demanding to speak to managers, then demand to speak to their superiors and then have a go at them, say that because of the poor service offered you might not go with them again, and right a snooty letter of complaint - always works for us!

I am very sorry to hear of your sisters loss and the distress she is having at the moment with business calls.
I have no suggestions to make regarding your problem but hope they will be sorted very soon.

calling 0808 1000 118 will get you through to the guys at 118118 and 118888 and they can remove details from their lists, then only bt can remove them from their data, and finally thompson. this should get rid of most of it.

you can't, some information is public record and culled from various databases, other is culled from other sources and can be looked up via paid searches like us search
