Well it has to be the 'Legend' Zizou(Zidane), he single handedly led France from two miserable draws against Switzerland & S Korea to a pompous win against Toga.
The next 3 matches against probably one of the top five teams, Spain, Brazil and Portugal were reminiscent of France 98.
France would have been the World Champions had the Materazzi incident not happened.

Captain Cannavaro.
He played 7 match - every minute from start to the end, never replaced. Having 2 match ended in e.t. he collects 690' played.
He was GREAT in every match. Italy failed against USA and AUS, with unimpressive playing. He has never failed.
He was outstanding in his box, fighting on every ball and never had a yellow card. His responsibilities become harder when Nesta - rated as one of the world best defenders - was out by injury since 3rd match.
I write exactly the same words BEFORE final match was started. Cannavaro was so far the best tournament player.
It's usual to have some trouble in spotting it out great plays performed by defenders. I guess many of us perfectly remember Del Piero's goal at 121' against Germany,
It was the best (and a perfect one) WC fast break attack (Italy rules in this kind of plays), but few noticed how it begins... here's a link to watch what Cannavaro does ;-)
At 121' when Italy was winning...
Take a look and enjoy it.

Zidane who else.He defied age and put his family first even when the world cup was 10 minutes away. And for the record the worst player is David trezeguet-he tried to do a zidane in the penalty shootout, but failed miserably.

*Z*I*D*A*N*E*

why: Because he was the only captain that did the most work to help his country reach the final: A goal against Spain, Brazil and Portugal and Italy, that is very good, he even helped France qualify for the WC. So he was the most valuable player.
