In 1969 we were in a 'space race' w/ Russia to be first on moon. So, we set a movie set somewhere, and staged the whole damn thing, thus winning the race. We might could have gotten a space monkey on the moon, but getting back to earth would have to be next to impossible, especially then. And if we could do it then, why don't we colonize the moon now, instead of the space station we do have? Bottom line, the government lies.

NASA would not have been authorised to go back to the Moon at all. Period.
Although, in time, maybe the Chinese and Russians would have had a go. And if they had, they'd have probably been asked by the US government to visit Tranquility to retrieve the bodies, bring them home for burial, on compassionate grounds.
But I don't think the US would have continued their space missions from that point.
They certainly wouldn't today.

nope.....there's no gravity on the moon...so the dead bodies will be floating all over and not stay at one single spot. But even if the bodies do stay at one spot, it would take quite a while before a new expedition takes place...the bodies would have been decomposed? Just a wild guess. Or maybe the bodies won't decompose so fast because the composition of air content is quite different in outer space? Just another wild guess. But your question's really thought provoking. Thanks!
