Education, health, social and legal awareness as to their rights, child up-bringing, participation in local development are some of the burning issues which require urgent attention. With education and awareness, many problems themselves get resolved. For funding, government, corporates and local agencies contribute a major share for these kind of activities. You would require to spell your charter and explore possible funders actively funds your matching kind of activities. I guess Oxfam have a lead on this with the production of ethnic, or regional goods, maybe you could approach them for some support. Education is obviously paramount, and some sort of studying even if is is only basic reading, writing and maths would be a start to enable them to grasp the basics of running a business. Where in the world is this group based, it might help you get better answers or even some help from this forum.

KIndly browse through www.goidirectory.nic.in or search for department of woman and child welfare in ministry of social justice webpage in www.goidirectory.nic.in. there are complete details regarding the formation of SHG and the benefits be being a SHG.
you can start accumulating fund by subscribing the SHG starting with a minimum of Rs.10/= each every week. just roll over it between the members of SHG by unanimously selecting one member at a time, ie during the meeting held weekly so that the member who is getting loan from the SHG shall use it for her business and return it in equal weekly instalments along with interest to the SHG. thus the fund will grow weekly and the income of SHG shall also grow. after a year, there will be rs.50,000 along with a interest of roughly 2000 for a SHG of at least 12 members.
good luck

Growth is a triangular concept between demand and supply. You have to study the local situation and find out the resources available there. And all depends on your ability to meet the demands in any given field, viz., agriculture, farming on leased land, manufacturing/industry, cottage/tiny/small scale, service, marketing, agency, business/re-packing, etc., etc.

You have to approach your Government Departments and Banking Institutions to find out what schemes they have for women empowerment. It is major agenda now before every Government and local body.

Finance won't also be a problem in coutnries with special schemes and programmes with regard to setting up ventures also on cooperative basis.

You have taken right decision. Be optimistic. There is a way out for everything. Blessings!!!!!!!

you are seemingly on the track. your group formation and, in that capacity, group members' meeting in a regular interval would give you a social bargaining power and stand for better economic negotiation with other social groups. your bargaining capacity would protect you, the group members, from social deprivation. to find answer to your investment inquiry, search 'micro credit' or 'social investment,' 'IB' etc. on the web. you will get an idea to start with.
