When wedding rings were first implemented, they went on the left hand's ring finger, since most believed there was a vein/artery straight to your heart (hence the left side). Since then, love was connected to the heart, and crude first drawings gave us the familiar shape.

.The heart is a energy center in the body and puts out its own electrical energy that is different than that of the brain. In times past before we have the science that we have now mystics knew that love is a emotion and when you are in love your heart beats at a more even rhythm and when you are hurting or sad it makes your heart hurt and leads to heart attacks. The truth is its not the heart that creates this but the mind that then controls the heart. Now if the brain is dead the heart beings is a separate electrical energy can and does keep working. The Lord has design us beautifully

hmmm never thougth of such a fine question -- I guess like all "tradition" this must have had one...and in my opinion -- people thought at the time it was "the heart that made the thinking, the feeling and all the rest of our actions and inactions --" of course that proved to be wrong...the heart does some functions and certainly not the thinking part of the human psyche -- as for love it begins with the brain...but I guess it is via the heart that pumping that much needed oxygen does take place...how about love at first sight -- then it is the eyes...that are the real culprit...enjoy.

The heart is a pump and should not be a symbol of love. The symbol of love should be a posturpedic!

no one say that love is setteled in heart , it 's our thoughts and ideas, so iam not in favour of saying that heart is the symbol of love .
the symbol of love is feelings that you shouldn't miss ,what ever happen you should be affectionate and kind
love < not to live lonely
one you will love is actually exicted
you will be very happy with him

the heart pumps blood which supports life
functions in other parts of the body,,,,,i also believe
every part has consciousness,not jsut the brain,
so the heart is usually the most generous giving part

Good question, poor English, but good question.
I wonder if it is anything to do with your heart skipping a beat when you are in love?
Or the fact that you can not live without your heart so the same would be said about your loved one?
I don't know really, but these are my guesses. :-)

And its the heart that feels low, causing low blood pressure, when you are missing your love...
