I seem to have some trouble finding them in the books I read, except in the totally obvious ones...

found the 7 basic plots on yahoo search engine here they are:
man vs. nature

I did report on the book Ethan Frome. The theme was about bleak winters and bleak love. Usually a theme is repetitive, and uses sentences like:

"The winter was particuarly harsh that season..."

"The birds looked more forlorn than normal..."

"Snow encompassed everything, and Spring seemed far from my mind..."

"The red scarf she wore stood out in the gray background of the woods..."
