Im on the pill and take it slightly differently from most people whereby i take 3 packs in a row and then take a 7 day break. I have read that its still possible to get pregnant if you are on the pill - does that apply to me though because i have just read the following on a website:-
"For a definite confirmation that you're pregnant, the implanted embryo has to be generating sufficient quantities of hCG for it to be detected by a pregnancy test. Whilst this is generally likely to be the around the day your period is due, a new study found that in up to 10% of pregnancies, the embryo was not implanted by that stage and therefore a negative Home Pregnancy Test (HPT) result was given"
which would mean i have to wait another 6 weeks before the embryo attaches itself - surely it would die or something by then? I sound really thick - but a) im not a doctor and b) biology was my strongest subject at school.

I have been on the pill for 5 years and have never had a problem with it, it is meant to be 99% effective. However I think that even if you were taking the pill and you got pregnant it would still be possible to detect whilst you were taking the packets as well as while on the break, It just means you have to wait longer to see it you get your period or not. I doubt the pill would kill an embryo although it may stop its development. If you are concerned you might be pregnant or want to know what the chances are of you becoming pregnant whilst on the pill I would go and talk to your doctor who can explain things fully. Dont rely on medical website information as it is not always correct and doesnt apply to everyone.

Taking your pill an unusual way does NOT decrease your chances of pregnancy. You should take it exactly how it was meant to be taken, at the exact same time every day. The 99% effectiveness is only if the pill were taken perfectly by a robot. Truly, its more like 92% or less because of the human error factor. Some womens bodies are so sensitive that even taking their pill 10 minutues off can cause them to ovulate and possibly get pregnant. No way to tell if you are one of those women. My recommendation is the Nuva Ring. Less hormones, much more effective, less side effects, and much easier. Unless you have already had one or more children, then the Mirena is the most effective. Equal to having your tubes tied in effectiveness. Has the least occurance of side effects, and NO human error factor. Plus, your fertility returns to normal right away when ever you decide to have it taken out, or you can just get a new one. One Mirena lasts 5 years, but can be removed at any time. I did a lot of research into birth control after having my daughter. Lots of chats with my doc too. Hands down, Nuva Ring and Mirena are your best options, depending on whether you have had a child or not. The pill is just not all its cracked up to be. All my friends have pill babies, including me. Talk to your doctor. If you really want to be protected, you need something better. If you really dont mind if you get prego, then dont be concerned.

The Pill! The Pill!! The Pill!!! Mans solution to child control. Well I have to say that yes to be honest you can get pregnant if you take the pill. The pill is not perfect. What it is meant to do is this and I hope you know your biology well. Fertilisation takes place when the sperm and the egg meet. The egg or zygote attaches itself to the wall of the womb and starts to feed given the developing child all the nutrients it needs to survive.
The work of the pill is to starve the developing foetus until it drops and dies since it has no nutrients to keep it alive. Its what the Nazis call death be starvation.
I Know the world we live in does not care about the unseen child but I believe we should put an end to the pill and abortion and all this stuff that make us look like lab rats. And become more responsible.
Am not saying you are not but if freedom means we can do anything we like and have laws to back it up as long as it gives some pharmaceutical more money. And at the end we suffer psychological breakdowns and different sorts of imbalances.
I have to say Pills are not the answer but a right and moral way of life is.

I cant see how an embryo could survive this long without implantation...
But..
I was taking microgynon when my little girl was concieved, in the same way as you with a week off. I was very methodical.
Exceptions can apply to everyone, nothing is 100% safe...

With reference to Point Blanks answer, the pill does not work in the way that he described.
The pill works by controlling the hormones used in the female body to release an egg by tricking the body into think that it is pregnant and therefore not releasing the egg.
Taking the pill is not an immoral act which kills a foetus so get off your moral high ground Point Blank and get your information right

No, it means it may implant a day or two later, which is why they suggest a further test a week later if the first is negative. Best way to check though is to go to your doctor and get a blood test done, they are much more accurate.

Your at high risk period....The pill is not 100%....It's not like some drugs that take 30 days to leave your system...You could still get pregnant while on the pill....

There is always a chance of getting pregnant with any form of birth control. That is why doctor's say it's only 99% affective.
It's always better to use 2 forms but even then...abstinence is the only guarantee unfortunately.

YES YOU STILL CAN GET PREGNANT BUT WITH TAKING THE PILL THIS WAY MEANS YOU HAVE LESS PERIODS WHICH MEANS YOU COULD BE PREGNANT FOR A LONGER PERIOD OF TIME THAN MOST WOMEN BEFORE YOU REALISED. THIS COULD AFFECT ANY DECISIONS OF WETHER YOU CAN HAVE AN ABORTION OR NOT?

I think that you should take the pill like your doctor told you for you can't end up pregnant because you have to take it everyday.
