its for a race meet, and will probably be raining, and if had sense I would wear jeans and trainers but that would be considered a big faux pas. What the heck should I wear? I prepare myself for plenty of nonsensical answers but I hope someone can genuinely help me =)

I would wear nice jeans and comfy shoes (maybe not trainers) and a pretty but warm top. When they put smart casual on the invite you are going to get a whole range of dress from well tarted up to scruffy i would say! so i would go in between. Comfy but not scruffy. Have fun xx

To an extent you have answered you own question - yes no jeans and 'T' shirts. It therefore depends a great deal on your own wardrobe. However since the invitation suggested "smart casual" then trousers are not ruled out - just not 'jeans'. The invitation is to a race meeting - therfore, if as you suggest it will either be or has rained then remember you'll probably be walking on grass - which if wet will also be muddy, therefore high-heels are not appropriate.

Jeans would be ok if they were clean/tidy & new looking.

With a nice roll neck perhaps or something like that along with a pair of boots that your jeans are able to go over.

Smart yet Casual and it wouldn't matter if it was raining. Which if it is you can always wear an anorack that still complements your casual style or failing that an umbrella.

Jeans and a nice top to go with them. You can dress it up a bit with a belt and jewellry. Wear a coat too though, cos you don't wanna be cold and wet outside if it is raining! I wouldn't wear trainers though if it is smart casual. Wear boots or something!

Ok you can still definatly wear a smart pair of jeans but just team them with a pretty top, nothing to over the top but not a t shirt either.Pair of heels, sandals or boots or shoes depending on the weather and a light jacket, nothing to chunky.
have a lovely time x

A clean pair of nice jeans and a high school certificate posted to the back of them with a list of your academic and other qualifications.

You will then be seen to be both casual and smart at the same time.

I'd say, nice pants, classical that is or a cute skirt, knee-lenght with boots maybe for the rain. A simple top and a nice jacket, a blazer...Something you're comfortable in but still look feminine and pretty in.

A nice trouser suit with a silk shirt, or perhaps a tunic top over a long skirt, shoes should of course be flat. It sounds as if it is a daytime occasion so no shiny fabrics or dangly jewellery. Pearls go with everything.

Well, if it is going to be outside and raining, to me, it would mean a nice casual outfit. I think this might mean no tacky shirts with bad stuff written on it for the guys, just a nice like a Polo shirt. For the girls, maybe a nice looking jogging outfit, and take an umbrella. I think the shoes would have to be like some kind of nice tennis shoes, don't you, if it is going to be muddy and such. Good Luck. .

Smart casual? Sounds like business casual, except a little more stylish, if that makes any sense...

(But I think that precludes jeans and sneakers/trainers)
