people will claim that they are better because it is fresh in their mind.

a good comparison to make is looking at the goals people score now with a lighter ball which will move loads in the air in say an s shape and look at carlos scoring that free kick at wc98 (i think)

careers probably wont be better because so many more players are being idolised (peter crouch!!) as being raw talent and getting paid heaps of money to be a face and a name for anything. football wise they might be the same, maybe better. who knows.

Of course. There are so many good players coming up now! Here's an article, on Spain: http://fifaworldcup.yahoo.com/06/en/060517/1/6tfx.html

The players are getting younger and younger because the game is getting faster-paced, so they need to be a lot fitter. Besides that, I've noticed that now there is a bumper crop of bright young things, this is most likely due to how football has been getting more and more lucrative, attracting more of these kids to go into it seriously. Also, there are many youth programmes to nurture young talent, they really help them along while in the past, most of the prospective footballers had to be patient and wait for someone to spot them. Now, the players get so much more grooming and attention.

Also, I think that it's also your perception of the whole thing. Perhaps nothing's really changed, maybe it's just due to the huge media blitz that young stars are getting (as compared to say, ten years ago when people talked about different things--like politics--and news was not transmitted so quickly).

Soccer is evolving with improved techniques and training facilities and much money and media(not really the best!), but I don't think the new generations will have a Diego Maradona, Franz Beckenbauer, Johann Cruyff or a Pele. FIFA is doing very well, spreading the play but raw talent? don't think so.
But we'll surely get some genuis once a while.

Yes,they can. it all depends on teamwork. The reason we didn't do v. well is because the team just didn't communicate, even John Terry admitted it. I.E. Steve Mclaren has made a good job so far. Its not only down to the players but the managers got to make them more confident as well

I like to think the new group is more proficient than the last, regardless of how good the old group was.

Techniques and training should evolve

yea. well i mean, they've all got so much potential. they can be really really good someday (not that they aren't good now). it is hard to say now if they will be better than some of the best players in the world, but they definitely have that potential to be great.
