Good question! Intellectuals are the ones that label themselves that way. I don't think many are intellectual. Just because they have questions and think they have the answers means nothing. I think I am smart because when I have questions I search for the answer. I can form my own opinion but opinion are middle ground towards the truth. There is no definition for intellectual. The Webster dictionary says "rational, performed by the intellect; given to study, reflect and speculate; engage in activity requiring th creative use of the intellect". Was the person(s) that came up with that definition intelligent? Who knows. I think it's your own perception.

You seem intelligent simply because you have more questions than answers. Many things have no answer. It's speculation, theory, ponderable, philosophy, opinion... Good luck on your paper.

Intellectuals, are the ruler everyone else is measured by, they set the curve for what defines intelligence, wisdom, and reason. People do not like them because of their own pride. People hate to change and hate to be shown they are wrong. The intellectuals barrage in unintelligent with their own shortcomings just by being. A stark look in the mirror showing you your faults. Ouch!

Many can be accused of intellectual snobbery but true intellectuals are highly intelligent, very knowledgable, deep thinkers.

e.g. Einstein, Stephen Hawkins, Karl Marx, Da Vinci

Some considers artists and poets as intellectuals; I don't think so. Few exceptions exist. I can see their point of view with somebody like Shakespeare.

Intellectuals mean exactly that ~ those who are of high intellect/ academically brilliant, lol=P
I guess it's because for others they fear they won't be able to measure up to their *the intellectuals* brilliance.
They get intimidated by it.
Also I've found that those who're intellects aren't always necessarily geeks, but arrogant & selfish as well at least where I'm at.
They look down upon those who're "weaker" than they are and are unwilling to share their knowledge for fear that they may be toppled.

I think you just answered your own question - they ask too many questions, think too much. A lot of people would rather go about their lives without thinking too much.
