If I had an ovarian cyst and it ruptured would it ultrasound pick up anything 8 hours later?

The ultrasound did not pick up any cysts, but I had all the symptoms and I am pretty sure that I had a cyst on my Rt. Ovary until it ruptured, which caused great pain in right side and back and made become light headed and faint.

I should also add that the pain was gone when I woke up the next morning and I started my period but it was heavier then normal.

Sometimes, after an ovarian cyst has ruptured, we can see a bit of fluid in the cul-de-sac of the pelvis with ultrasound. The Pouch of Douglas (cul-de-sac or rectovaginal septum) is the space between the rectum and the uterus. This is the lowest part of the abdominal cavity, so this is where the free fluid tends to accumulate.. If there is not much fluid, it would be hard to detect. We cannot see the remains of a cyst on the ovary with ultrasound.

Is it possible you had a miscarriage? I don't know that an ultrasound would show a ruptured cyst 8 hours later. Do you have a history of ovarian cysts?

It is possible. It is also possible that the dr is telling you that is what happened because there are more cysts on the ovaries and that is how he knew.

Yes, there'd be residual fluid and the rim of the cyst.

It may/may not, since if it explodes, eben if it's small, it may dissepate and not show.
