Consequence is pretty much it! Ive never thought about this before.....but being bad always results in someone getting hurt or hurting yourself in the long run...thats why we cant do it!

The being "bad" part is the hurting someone else part. Or yourself. The reason whatever bad act is immoral in the first place is bcuz it will undoubtedly result in someones pain or suffering. Its just how the universe works. Cause and Effect. There are no actions without consequences, be them good or bad. If doing something "bad" stopped hurting people...then it would set the universe off balance, cuz "bad" wud have lost its meaning.

I guess your right. And there is definitely nothing wrong with that. I can describe two patterns of consequence to help elaborate my point.

You do not want to hurt somebody because they might hurt you back. The consequence you wish to prevent is directed towards you. There is nothing wrong with wanting to survive.

You rush to the aid of someone starving to death by sharing your food. The consequence you wish to prevent is directed to the other person. There is nothing wrong with wanting the other person to survive and wanting to share a piece of your compassion.

Self preservation and compassion are just two of the many motivations that drives us to prevent a consequence by doing what is right.

No, the real reason to choose not to 'do something bad' is because obediance is better than self dependance - God meant for doing the right thing to be better for you and more fun than doing the wrong

To me it's a question of honor and self-respect. If a person cheats on an exam, even if no one ever catches them, that person knows in his/her heart that they are a cheat - that person will know that they are the kind of person that was low enough to cheat.

The same thing with any other "sin" a person might commit. Even if no one ever knows, that person will know that what he/she did was wrong.

The question is, what kind of person do you want to be? Do you want to think of yourself as a good and honorable person? If so, then you have to do good and honorable things. If you want to respect yourself then you have to do the right thing. If you don't, then how can you have any self-respect?

I couldn't be bad just for the sake of being bad. I have a conscience and it wouldn't matter if there was no consequence.

If it doesn't hurt anyone else, its probably not bad. What, you want to smoke a joint , or jerk off or something?
