In writing figures the styles is same everywhere you put a comma after three figures. As for the amount in words and i think is dependent on the country you are, i think English is universally acceptble(not sure though).

It is just the other way around from US usage.
Example: US 3,987,000.50 = rest of the world 3.987.000,50.
