it's all about carcinogens (cancer causers) they're everywhere. EVERYWHERE! in food we eat and in the air we breath and in many of the drinks we drink. maybe it has to do with all the atomic bombs that have been tested, maybe it's the pesticides for the crops, maybe it's the injections that they give cows to make it so that they produce more milk (which by the way actually does nothing but hurt the cows and we already produce to much milk in this country so it's not needed) maybe it's because all these things are allowed to get to us because somewhere someones making an easy buck. maybe there's no cure because so many people gain so much money if the middle class spends the last five years of their lives paying for the next day.
but what do i know? I'm just a smoker.

This is all load of bull I am not medical person at all but, You have the cancer gene in your body when your born, the only way this gene becomes active is if something helps it along its way, hence smokers have more chance of getting lung cancer and people with hereditary cancers are more likely to get the cancers that run in the family. Infections don't know what infections, but they can activate the dormant cancer cells. It's pot luck if your going to get cancer or not you can't say yes or no, but there are ways of trying to prevent the infections and waking the dormant cells.

Hi Doc. It's lack of B17 in the diet, along with low oxygen levels (cancer is anaerobic), plus stress, worry and other environmental factors. I am serious, by the way..
I'm not suggesting people take up smoking or carry on. Tobacco, in it's processed and chemicalised form as a cigarette, is not really beneficial, cancer or not. In it's natural form, it does have some moderate positive effect as it is a bronchial-dilator when used in it's traditional medicinal role, as it was by native South Americans.
Thanks.

You're right about the majority of cancer being in non-smokers but it's not a vast majority. About one-third of all cancer sufferers are smokers.
There are over 200 different types of cancer.
A lot of them are due to lifestyle (eg too much sun causes skin cancer). Unfortunately, for smokers, cigarettes can cause a number of different types of cancer - lung, oral cavity (lip, tongue, mouth, throat), larynx (voice box), esophagus, and probably cancers of the bladder and pancreas.
However, we all have to die of something. I wouldn't want to die of lung cancer, personally, as it's a very nasty and painful way to go.

You refer to cancer as if it were one specific complaint, it is not. There are many forms of cancer and to make a sweeping statement as you have in your question you are simply blurring people's perception of the dangers of smoking. It is required to break cancer deaths into statistics for each type of cancer and its relationship to smoking before your comments have any validity. By the way do you work for a tobacco company?

There are so many types of cancer, but it is still a fact that smoking can be a major cause of lung cancer, also mouth cancer, heart desease, artery problems, bronchitis, emphysema, household fires, makes you stink, makes your breath smell and just generally an unatractive person. Stop trying to justify your vile habit!

Because there's loads of different types, and causes of cancer! Smoking is generally regarded to be the biggest cause of lung cancer, and also attributable to throat and mouth cancers. But it does not cause all cancers....eg. skin and breast cancer. Believe it or not diet is actually considered to be the biggest overall cause of cancer, with alcohol also being a major contributer (particularly in throat and liver cancer amongst others). And of cause there is a strong genetic link.

Because there are other types of cancer than lung cancer. Duh.
Incidentally, while the majority of deaths from cancer may not be from lung cancer, lung cancer still causes more deaths in adult males than any other type of cancer.

Because people are living longer and cancer happens to (most) later in life? Maybe it's the downside of longevity, that the risk of cancer increases? I'm only guessing. My supposition has no factual basis.
