allow it to rot.
back hoe - I have yet to see one too large for this method.
stump grinder - rental units are typically small, do as before suggested contact a tree company. local company or Davey tree is a national company in the us.
burning - build a fire ring out of stones around it and you could burn it out.
my favorite is !
EXPLOSIVES - check local codes you may need a permit or a professional. When I was a youngster I watched an old man with a cigar and a stick of dynamite rocker a large stump 50 feet into the air, it was awesome and effective.

Go to your local home depot or other places that rent machinery. Rent a stump grinder.
Grind it down. There is no stump to large for a good stump grinder. It is inexpensive to rent and will be some of the most fun you have had in a long time.
Or you can go the nice quiet way of letting it rot. Just find the largest drill bit you can find, preferable at least a half inch or larger. Drill holes all over it every week. pour soil in the holes and keep it wet. when an area looks like it is nice and soft hit it with an Axe or edge of a shovel then drill more holes below that area.
It will be gone in a months or so.

I have seen some substance that you can put into holes you drill in the stump that will make it rot faster. Lots of holes drilled into it will make it decompose faster as more of the stump will be exposed to the elements and bugs that like eating dead wood. There are some edible mushrooms that grow well in oak stumps and fallen branches. If your stump is in a shady location that may be the thing to do if you like mushrooms.
Find your local university extension office and ask then for advice. They should be able to help you or put you in touch with someone who can.

Cut stump to ground-level, drill holes in stump(the deeper, the better), pour sugar, soda, or molasses over stump and cover with compost. Now stand back and let nature do the rest. The sugar will increase microbial activity and in a fairly short time they will consume the stump.Do not pour salt or petroleum products on the stump as these will kill the microbes and in actuality preserve the stump!

Make several cuts in it and pack it with dirt. Do this at least once a week and it will be gone before you know it. The dirt helps it rot faster. I do this and it really works. You can also drill holes in it and let the dirt and water rot it.

innoculate with a suitable fungus.
depending on type of tree, and surrounding plants that might be affected.
You might even be able to grow an edible variety for fun and profit.
