I doubt that the RAM or Mother Board will be damaged if such direct connection is given as a remedy of faulty switch on the computer case. My mother board and RAM have been replaced with new ones due to the fluctuations of electricity because of the faulty switch.
Is it because of the faulty switch or some other reason?

What you need is a power surge protector (or automatic voltage regulator). The damages to the previous motherboard was caused by power spike that burned it. The computer's power switch has nothing to do with it. You plug you computer to that surge protector and the surge protector is connected to the main. You can even leave all plugged if there is a power on switch on the surge protector.

Hey buddy The s.m.p.s is the one who lets power into the computer. The problem occurs with old smps or faulty ones.It could also be due to the switch. Just unplug the power switch from the motherboard and plug the computer again. you gotto keep the leads on motherboard for power switch shorted with screwdriver or something like that. Dont worry its okay. I work as a technician. Even then if computer starts then the problem could be with your smps. And YES ITS NOT GOOD FOR YOUR BOARD /RAM.
