Elements can only have one atom. O is an element. O2 is not an element. O2 is a molecule of the element O. Same with the other one..H is an element. H2 is not an element. But H2 is a molecule of that element. H2O2 or H2O is a compound or HO or whatever elements put together that are different are compounds. So H2 is not a compound and O2 is not a compound either. They are neither compounds or elements. O2 is a molecule of the element O ..and H2 is a molecule of the element H. There ppl lol 8 years of people telling u wrong answers lol hope all the confusion can finally be cleared up for everyone that reads this!!!

There are two types of pure substances: elements and compounds.
Oxygen is a pure substance. The element oxygen is found in the air most commonly as oxygen gas. Oxygen is one of the seven diatomic elements: H2 N2 O2 F2 Cl2 Br2
and I 2 eye2 not to be confused with the # 12 and it is not known if At ( the element Astatine ) is diatomic.
Two Oxygen atoms come together and for a molecule of Oxygen gas. Some times three atoms of oxygen come together to form ozone.
Ozone O3 and Oxygen O2 are molecules. They are alotropes.
Oxygen and the other diatomic elements are elements that commonly exist as diatomic molecules. Remember to use the formula O2 if you write an equation for a chemical reaction that involves Oxygen.

Oxygen element is represented as O, while O2 is existing in the form of a molecule but not a compund.
In chemistry, a molecule is generally an aggregate of at least two atoms in a definite arrangement held together by special forces. Often, a molecule is the smallest particle of a pure chemical substance that still retains its composition and chemical properties. In the molecular sciences, a molecule is a sufficiently stable, electrically neutral entity composed of two or more atoms
The molecule is therefore not a chemical bonding between two atoms of the same element.
The oxygen gas exist naturally in air as oxygen molecule and is represented as O2. Similarly some other gases exist as molecules like hydrogen H2, chlorine Cl2, nitorgen N2 etc but some dont occur as molecules but as single atoms e.g. helium He, Neon Ne, Argon Ar

It's an element. You need at least two elements to be joined together to have a compound. This is also a molecule because a molecule is simply at least two ATOMS joined together, they can be the same element. Definition of Compound A compound is a substance formed when two or more chemical elements are chemically bonded together. Two types of chemical bonds common in compounds are covalent bonds and ionic bonds. The elements in any compound are always present in fixed ratios.

Both O2 and H2 are elements,
not compounds, they are found in this state in nature.
to be a compound it should be wit other elements, I think...

its a compound. an element means a single atom. and a compound means a group of atom. even if d single atom is unstable it is called element only . and wen it combines wid other elements den it forms compounds
