Butterflies are helpful. They help to pollinate your plants. Don't know about grasshoppers. All I can tell you is that one year when we had an infestation of grasshoppers here, The Cooperative Extension Service advised to keep all surrounding weeds , brush and grass cut. Provides less habitat for them. If you can catch them they make good fish bait. Also keep all weeds out of the garden. You might check with a garden center to see if they can suggest a bait or poison for them.

Here I go again. Sprinkle Sevin Dust around your vegetables. It will not harm the plants but insects can't stand it. I don't know about butterflies in vegetable gardens, but I know if you look for plants that attract butterflies, then you can plant one and they will go to that. There is a plant called a butterfly plant. The name is buddleia plant.
