It is utterly reprehensible, irresponsible and illogical. They are playing with peoples lives. So DEFRA are prepared to risk someone dying of Rabies - just to see how it spreads???? Jesus Christ what else are they going to try out??? How about I shoot them - just to see what happens to the bullet?!!

It seems to me they are playing with fire. Bats are vermin? Seriously? If they are vermin, how come they are close to extinction? There is a rat for every person in britain, now there's vermin. (The rat or the person? You decide.)
Anyway, what if this starts a rabies epidemic among people, what if it mutates into a vampire like virus. Yeah, you can laugh, but are the symptoms of vampirism really that much different from rabies? If you ignore the whole immortality bit, but strictly speaking even that is possible if the regeneration process is accelerated.

surely DEFRA can gleen this information from countries who have rabies...research must have been done....we are a rabies free country and i don't see the point of deliberately infecting animals, let alone the cruelty aspect...!

I think its fine, without testing like this we would never have any of the medicines that we have today
That includes all make for ladies :-) and drugs etc
If we know how it works , we can then have better understanding to prevent it in future
