I like playing civilization III on my PC, anyone know game with similar structure, with sci-fi slant?

I tried civ IV. was disappointed. Other similar games in general (especially those with editor programs)? thanks.

Well the guy above me recommended warcraft, now theres world of warcraft (and what I hear, its really addicting)
