my father in laws mother died this year, and if that wasnt bad enough, the day after he found out that his dad wasnt his birth father. We've tried everything to find him but 2 no avail, he's even appeared on the trisha show. We now believe that his birth father was an american serviceman who was stationed at saighton (UK) army barracks in 1943. We believe his name is G Moss. We would very much appreciate any other advice from anyone, of where else we can start searching. Thank you for your time.

Social Security death records in the US are public records. You can find them at http://www.death-records.net/ssdi.htm . These records will show anyone who died in the US after 1962. You will eventually need more information such as his full given name. The military will release a DDR-214 (US military discharge papers) and other military records to a family member by filling out their form and sending in the small fee. You can find the form on the web at NARA. http://www.archives.gov/research/index.html .
Good luck.

How awful. Wouldn't it be better to just pretend it never happened? Just because some yank soldier got someone pregnant and never bothered about it, doesn't mean he is going to be a satisfactory parent or even someone you would want to know.
