Blood tests are the most accurate. Unless you got someone else's blood results by mistake, it is the result to trust.

A false positive is not common on a pregnancy test, but you could have tested too soon and had a chemical pregnancy.

Basically, the idea that pregnancy begins the moment sperm and egg meet is not quite true. Once sperm and egg meet you have the conditions for conception, but the cells have to travel through your filopian tubes and implant in the uterus and start growing the placenta. That process takes about two weeks.

Once sperm and egg meet, the body starts to produce pregnancy hormones that can be measured in urine. The tests are so sensitive that, if you test first thing in the morning, you can sometimes get a positive result even the day after fertilization of the egg.

However, if something in the journey through the tubes happens (the cells stop dividing due to chromosomal errors, the egg is actually empty of DNA "a blighted ovum", the sperm was unhealthy), the pregnancy doesn't happen, but it still takes a few days for your kidneys to flush the hormones out of your urine while they are expelled from your blood faster.

This is actually very common and most women, in the past, yould never know that they'd experienced a chemical pregnancy if it weren't for "early response" tests. It doesn't mean that you've miscarried. It doesn't mean that there is something wrong with you. It is just something that happens as your body learns to get pregnant.

I am sorry you had to go through this though, life as a woman is complicated. May you have a healthy and happy pregnancy very soon.

Blood work is generally MUCH more reliable than any home test. Maybe you're just late?

Of course, I've also heard that on the home tests it's impossible to get a false positive, a false negative maybe, but never a false positive.

The reason that the doctors do the blood test is because it is the most accurate.

It could just be stress or previous hope that is causing you to still not start. Just keep trying... that is really the fun part... making the baby!!!!

You may have just gotten a faulty home test.

Blood doesn't lie. Home tests can be wrong, that is why they call then home tests. You don't have to buy the most expensice tests either. Generic ones work the same way and save you money.

How much time passed between the home test and the blood work? Perhaps you miscarried in between tests? It's not uncommon at all in the very early stages.
