Because theres just that many people out there that are playing the game. Have you tried something like a mix of your name and a character? Like mine would be outrageousH0tJediL0vr1964. Just think of something waaay out of the ordinary.

If you are talking about a Station name for the forums...try using your character's first name and then a few numbers afterwards. Station names for the forum, etc are different than the character name. It doesn't let you choose the same one.
If you are trying to come up with something for the character's name you want to play; there is a random name generator to help - which helps you decide based on the race of character...so wookies and zabraks have more unique/authentic looking names.
A lot of names are tough to get since many people choose names close to actual names in the Expanded Universe. Many names such as Luke and Lando are locked out since those names are already made famous.

That happend to me, it turns out I didnt fill out the information correctly. just read the error message carefully and type in the information again
