Chromatography is used to separate and identify the different colored components in inks or dyes. Traveling at different rates the different colored components will appear at different location on the filter paper. ( this was the definition of chromatography)
If you want to separate or identify the mixed colored substances, carry out the very simple experiment below...
For example you want to identify the different colored components in "BLUE INK".
Put a drop of blue ink on a filter paper, add a very tiny drop of water to it and then leave it for sometime. You will see the different colored components on different location of the filter paper.. these components will appear at different location because they travel at different speeds..
