You're just going to have to do the research and write it out yourself.

The gist of it is that post-WW2, with the structure of the British colonial rule in Malaya siginificantly weakened, there was a strengthened call for independence. An insurgency arose from this, mainly backed by the communist party (PKM - Parti Komunis Malaya) - which incidently led the resistance against the Japanese occupation during WW2 in the form of MPAJA (Malayan People's Anti-Japanese Army).

As PKM was mainly a Malayan Chinese movement, the leaders of the indeginous Malays had to offer an alternative, lest the socio-economic balance between the 3 main races (Malays, Chinese and Indians) would irreversibly steep in favour of the Chinese. And as PKM's campaign saw violent clashes, it was natural for an alternative, diplomatic means to the quest of independence be sought.

Hence, United Malay Nationalist Organisation (UMNO), led by Tuanku Abdul Rahman paved the way for talks with the British, which led to the eventual independence of Malaya on August 31st, 1957. Tuanku Abdul Rahman was then made the first Prime Minister.

With independence in hand, the cause of the insurgency was made irrelevant and it was thus quelled.

See the link below for a rough guide.

Oh, and that day is today. Merdeka!
