I had my first internal today and all he said was I was a fingertip dialated (& he could feel babies head).

so would "a fingertip dialated" be 1 cm or less?
Also..is it normal to spot and have an increase in contractions after an internal??

Yes, I am at the end. I am 36 weeks..soo I am really close.

I havent lost my mucus plug yet, and have had lots of contractions since the internal so Im figuring the bloody discharge was the start of that since I am contracting more frequently. Thanks for your answer!

1 fingertip = 1 cm

Yes, it is normal to spot after an internal, IF you are at the end of your pregnancy. It could be that the mucus plug (the "show") is about to come out.
Add that to the contractions, and I would say that labor is starting.
Wait a bit and see if the "show" appears and if contractions increase. If so, then head for the hospital to deliver.

If you are NOT at the end of your pregnancy, I suggest you see your doctor immediately.

Good luck!

The spotting after an internal is normal.

1 fingertip is 1 cm dialated, but many women can stay at that stage for up to 4 weeks, especially for a first birth.

That said, I know the final weeks of pregnancy are uncomfortable, so please take it easy. Below is a link to some information you need before you give birth to help yourself recover afterward.

Good luck and have a safe birth!

A fingertip dilated is less than 1 cm .. and you could be that way for several days/weeks. Also, it is totally noraml to feel crampy, have more uterine tightening, and a little spotting after an internal exam. I had one on tuesday (my 2nd - I am 37.3 weeks) and felt very crampy... I have been 1 cm dilated since last week, but the baby has dropped to -2 station. Hang in there! It wont be long!

Ask your hubby to be more attention to you.
Good luck!
