acts of stupidity and acts of idiotry are two different matter. stupidity means have studied and have learned a little... a stupid person is someone who can do things with just a little knowledge. an idiot person is one has no knowledge at all...
now to your question.... a stupid question sometimes measures one's intelllect.. testing one's knowledge, smartness, wittyness. on the other hand, a stupid answer at times are sarcastic in nature...
depending on the question itself, both may be sane, both may be intellectual... or both are plain stupid.... buth both can never be idiots cause both have raise their opinion and view.

Neither one is an idiot. My reasoning is this...
The one asking the question is wise enough to seek an answer.
The one answering is wise enough to acknowledge someone on the path to enlightenment.
This prosses has to start at a very basic level, and moves upward as progression happens. The only idiots are those who do not ask questions, or listen to what others have to say.
*Not all that people have to say will be enlightening.*

The one who answers stupid questions is trying to raise the level of intelligence, so he is not the idiot.
The one who asks stupid questions may be an idiot, but only until he gets smarter, which he does by getting answers to those stupid questions. So the very act of asking, may be considered a sign of at least some intelligence.
The only real idiots, IMHO, are those who choose to willingly remain ignorant.

Idiot No. 3 - The person who asked above question
Idiot No. 4 - The person who answered above question

Dear,
We are all idiots.
You are trying to call others idiots means you are calling yourself wise. Are you really wise?????

Well, to answer your question, there is a saying:
"Don't answer a fool according to his folly."
You see, when someone asks a stupid question, they might not necessarily have thought about what they were asking, so what results is a sincere question.
Who are we to judge the unconscious wonderings of another???
Also, that "stupid question" might have been asked with a certain degree of wit.
BUT
The person who chooses to answer a stupid question and still believes that his answer is valid or true, becomes the true idiot.
Then again...how do we define a "stupid question."
Hmmm...
Peace, love and happiness

In medicine and psychology, an idiot is a person with a very severe mental retardation or a very low IQ level. Idiots were defined as people whose IQ were below 20 (with a standard deviation of 16). In the current classification, these people are now said to have profound mental retardation. The word is no longer used as a scientific term.
So to answer your question. Neither are idiots.
